As the Customization & Integration expert the Android software engineer will have extensive knowledge and experience designing, developing and modifying the Android platform. The position will involve the building, porting, integration and deployment of custom images to a wide range of Android devices remotely and on site with Hardware OEM. Willingness to travel internationally up to 30% of time.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical consultation and expertise to Engineering colleagues, Product Managers, Project Managers and other Synacor staff members
  • Lead integration of the ROM to the destination hardware remotely and on site with OEM
  • Make key decisions on technical projects related to software architecture
  • Document existing products, systems, and infrastructure
  • Identify emerging trends or technologies that could impact our products in the future
  • Provide guidance, drive for best practices, and promote coding standards and standardization with developers and managers

What You’ll Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience in software development for mobile/embedded platforms including Android
  • Extensive experience with Android Open Source Project (AOSP) project and build system (installing, modifying, building, etc.)
  • Extensive working knowledge of the Android development environment and APIs
  • Understanding of Android and Linux system architecture, including familiarity with the underlying Linux kernel
  • Proficient in Java, C, and C++
  • Understanding of the Android eco-system, key players, Android CTS, Android CDD and integration
  • Highly self-motivated and able to drive projects forward without detailed guidance
  • Ability to work with customers in a high-pressure deadline driven environment
  • Minimum two years of Android middleware, embedded development experience
  • Expertise with software development, source control management and debugging tools such as make, gcc, gdb, ptrace, adb, Eclipse, ant, repo, and git
  • Experience using, developing, integrating and/or porting of Android ROMs such as Cyanogenmod
  • Experience hacking, reverse engineering is desirable
  • Fluency in Mandarin is desirable
